Project Updates, and a Sneak Peek for My Readers

Project Updates, and a Sneak Peek for My Readers

I’m super pumped to announce that the second draft of my novella The Weatherman’s Apprentice has been completed, and as of last week my Nazgûl have been dispersed across the nation, carrying it to all my beta readers.

The plan is set into motion, friends. No man (or woman, or hobbit, or any other random life form) can stop it now. I feel as though a maniacal laugh would be appropriate here, but I have embarrassing memories from the last time I tried that.

So now that Weatherman is off my plate for the time being, I’m having some fun with other projects–diving into research for a new renaissance-flavored fantasy series, preparing to rewrite The Confessor, and kicking around the idea of a cyberpunk web serial.

Also, gearing up for a weekend at Realm Makers, a conference for writers of speculative Christian fiction. Looking forward very much to listening to some great speakers and meeting some awesome people.

I’d like to leave you guys with a sneak peek from this early draft of Weatherman. Hopefully you’ll get to watch it become much better from now until publication. (I’m crossing my fingers for early 2016.)

Also hopefully, you will like it so much that you will write a Post-It note to yourself as a reminder to buy copies for yourself and all your relatives and friends and favorite politicians when it does get published.

So without further ado, here’s the excerpt.

Here’s wishing you a great week full of chocolate and coffee and swelling word-counts.

Cheers,

~Braden

  1. Oh my goodness, Braden, I love it! What an interesting concept, and I’m already in love with Calvin. Definitely looking forward to the rest of this!

    • Aw, I’m kind of partial to him myself. 😉 Thanks Rachelle!

  2. I’m still so excited about Renaissance fantasy.

    Also, publishing??

    • Me too. 🙂

Yeah, hoping to e-publish in early 2016! Nothing too big and glamorous, but it’ll be something.

  3. Oh, Renaissance fantasy – that sounds interesting! Congrats on completing the second draft of The Weatherman’s Apprentice, Braden!

    • Thanks, Micaiah! 🙂

  4. What a fascinating idea. It puts a new twist on the title ‘weatherman’. I’m also enjoying the ideas of renaissance fantasy and cyperpunk!

But may I point out that your plan is vulnerable to ghost armies? After all, I don’t think you can call them a ‘life form’.

    • SHOOOOT. My plan is not as foolproof as I thought.

  5. Oh that is so cool! Congrats of the completion of another draft!

    • Thanks Clare! 🙂

  6. You can’t do that! Not just one chapter! Now I want more!
And the renaissance fantasy idea sounds great. 🙂

    • GOOD. 😉
Thanks! I’m really excited about it.

  7. Congratulations on the accomplishment! I really really like the sneak peek. You had me at “constructing a typhoon”. Totally buying your book when it comes out.

    • Thanks, Abby! 🙂

  8. Can’t wait to read the rest! I wish the future came faster…

  9. I really enjoyed that, Braden. Can’t wait for this thing to get published! It looks like it will be awesome. (: I’ll have to buy it when it comes out. 😉
